Getting caught up in the Tiger’s run to glory? I remember 1984, the last time the Tiges were in the Series. I was 10 and life was pretty good. I followed the team religiously from spring training up to Larry Herndon’s final put out to clinch it.
One noticeable difference this year from ‘84 (among many, many differences) is the media coverage associated with a WS in the new millenium. For instance, literally 24-7 coverage of the game from the media with ESPN, ESPN News, Fox Sports, websites, blogs, forums. The Detroit Tigers are one of the hottest tickets not only on cable but on sites like youtube (mags homer has over 13,000 views).
What’s best about web 2.0 and new media is that Fox’s clip of the home run that sent the Tigers to the World Series isn’t the only video of that night. Check out the clips of fans at the game and get a feel for what it was like for the actual fans to celebrate the biggest home run in Detroit since Gibby’s shot in ‘84.
Finally, if you are interested in how the Tigers are feeling before during and after the game check out Nate Robertson’s blog
Needless to say alot has changed since 1984 but one thing hasn’t changed…our love for the Detroit Tigers!
