The Detroit Free Press reports what we’ve already known…ad dollars are moving from traditional mediums like television and radio to new media and new marketing. More auto ad dollars heading to Internet (Detroit Free Press 10/9/06)
This article reports that the autos alone will spend $1.23 billion on online advertisting, a 37% increase over last year’s spend. Specific sites mentioned that will benefit from this influx of dollars include www.myspace.com, www.friendster.com and www.theonion.com.
According to the article youth and young professionals are the target markets being corted by this shift in ad spends. Expect this trend to continue as younger audiences have less time and appetite to watch TV, listen to the radio and read newspapers.
I have to admit though…I first saw this article while reading the Freep at a Belle Tire waiting for my car to get new gear. I guess every now and then some down time for reading will be forced upon us!
